“Everyone Goes Home” is a very well known phrase and noble goal in the fire service. Stickers and signs to remind us are seen frequently. It has done much to focus us on how we can better assure our individual and collective survival as well as raised awareness and identified numerous ways for us to do more to address the prevention of accidents and injuries.
Sadly one of the major contributing factors to deaths in the fire service is that of personal fitness. Statistically more will fall due to health problems than to trauma.
This book was written to help you build and maintain a degree of physical fitness that can help you be better prepared to meet the physical demands that often are placed on Firefighters. When called on to go from relaxed to maximum activity in a short period of time, the physical stress placed on your body can quickly take you to or past your limits.
The exercises and information in this book may assist you in developing a workout routine that is beneficial to improving your state of health and building your stamina. Improving your cardiovascular and muscle tone as well as giving you an increased range of motion are all potential benefits attained through exercise. Additional information provided will help you and others to develop a program to meet your goals, all resulting in steps to help in minimizing your potential for injury or death.
Written by a Firefighter for Firefighters this book is something that may help save your life. Not meant to be a bible of exercise but a guide that explains a bit of the why as well as the how to exercise. We hope you find it motivational enough to see that it finds it’s way into your personal and department activities and encourages you to exercise for better health, to improve your ability to perform your duties, and help minimize the potential of your becoming a tragic statistic.
